The Iron Star Dispatch

The index.html (IDX) Description

About the Iron Star Dispatch website

The ISD expresses my interest in life in its many aspects. I'm interested in politics, technology, information technologies (operating systems and programming in Bash scripting language), society dynamics, nature, cheap camera photography (not professional aka "photo-shopped"), popular-science education, climate and weather, and many others dealing with information processing. Suitable services will be added to the ISD accordingly in the future (as time allows?).

I have begun with Cheap Camera Photography firstly, as I have some cute pictures made in last two years, secondly, it had to start with relatively easy service to use it as an "experimental field" in my activities within the ISD framework.

ISD plan encompasses such services like:

* Climate Illustrated Magazine (VIM) - news and information on weather events and phenomena, research stations and presentation of views and opinions from around the world (on the subjects).

* Climate Illustrated Images (COG) - a gallery of illustrations, diagrams, charts, images. All related to the weather and climate issues.

* Edy Paths (EDP) - longer articles or compilations on very interesting subjects, like for example green and blue flashes of sunsets.

* GMT Tutorial Project (GYP) - I plan to write two simple manuals for The Generic Mapping Tools package.

* Operating Systems (OPS) - scripts of mine making life at keyboard easier and having works done more effectively.

* Weather Events in Poland (WEP) - weather events and phenomena from over Poland (in Polish language) presenting or illustrating "official" forecasts and information with additional images.

* Iron Star Dispatch (ISD) - whole shebang of world news on every topic.

I hope I will find the time, stamina and resources to fulfill my intentions.

Why "ANDROMEDA, A Space-Age Story?"

The ISD homepage starts with small excerpt from ANDROMEDA, A Space-Age Story book written by Russian author Ivan Yefremov. The book was published in 1980 by Soviet Progress Publishers, Moscow (First edition in Russian: 1959).

The iron star grabbed the expedition's starship in its gravitational forces and the whole crew seemed to be doomed forever. The picture resembles present fall of our civilization to unknown point from which there will be no escape.

But the crew was united, their will was made of steel, and they have a lot of luck. Perhaps our planet will be lucky enough to avert the spiraling down to no existence? Who knows?

As for now, the coming news are scary and there's little hope for mankind's future.

The Iron Star Dispatch will bring the news to you with my short comments, sometimes bitter, sometimes passionate and with a pinch of strong wording.

The Website Structure

The ISD is divided into separate entities/services. Whole website is highly structured with every service having the same page layout what will make using it a bit easier.

I decided to use all sort of brackets to make hyperlinks more readable. Here they are:

LEGEND:
( ) - defines date
{} - defines tags
[ ] - defines hyperlinks
 - defines new hyperlink(s)

The Page Layout

From HTML point of view the pages are modularized. Thanks to that every service will look the same what should be seen as advantage to the readers I hope.

For example, every page has a header containing the following information:

[ Homepage / CCP News ] [ Info: CCP DSC ] [ Forum: CCP NEW ] ( Update: Sep 29, 2011 )

* First part is self-explanatory, Homepage links to the Main page and the second part (here CCP News) informs about the service which is being displayed at present (here Cheap Camera Photography News).

* Info(rmation) hyperlinks to the description page for a given service.

* Forum points to external forum (registering is compulsory due to the plague of bots) where you would be able to place your comments, remarks and discuss the ISD issues.

* The last part belongs to the date.

All information type is put within corresponding brackets listed above in LEGEND paragraph.

The Menu Layout

News meta-menu presents services referring to the news pages containing small introductory posts. The posts, most with thumbnail(s), will hyperlink reader to respective albums or articles.

Albums/Articles meta-menu shows the list of the ISD services leading to lists of their articles and albums. Meta-menu was created for readers' convenience. The target lists of albums/articles will be able to search for given tags or categories using Search function of users' web browsers.

Image Data Bases (IDBs) meta-menu will be populated by services which will have collective gallery of all images from services' albums. The galleries will be searchable for keywords. Please keep in mind that not all services will sport such gallery due to the fact I am able to create static html pages only. Effective database should be a dynamic one but as for now it is out of question.

Internet Resources meta-menu's option will point to pages comprising of list of interesting websites, of course from the services point of view and my dislikes. ;-)

Recapitulation

Every comment and every help (e.g. mailing interesting hyperlinks of websites) will be greatly welcomed.

I warmly welcome everyone to register to ISD forum. Return information or a feedback is very important for such services like this one.

My best regards to all.
